A Sayamacha tasting from the Okutomi family - 12 seats in total

Join us at this upcoming tasting event to sample a wide ranging selection of Okutomi-san - the15th generation in the family, his dedication to Sayamacha is deserving of deep respect. This is a brilliant opportunity for us to showcase some extremely limited and rare tea by him.

Line up:

* Hinpyoukai temomicha - drinking the pure art that is hand rolled tea. Grade 1 Rank 3 (197/200 marks) out of 87 submissions from 16 prefectures. Single cultivar Yabukita, handpicked in late April, lightly steamed, and hand rolled in one exhausting 6+ hour session.

* Ichou Yumewakaba - the tea has gone through the ‘ichou’ wilting process before steaming, suppressing the savoury umami and bringing out more floral and delicate notes.

* Matcha - only the second time we are offering matcha from Sayama prefecture, grown in the tencha fields his dad pioneered.

* The Bone - there is no chance we could miss out Okutomi san’s signature houjicha!

* Oolong bancha - the latest project from Okutomi san, showcasing a sweet and delicate lightly oxidised oolongcha.

* Wakoucha - you probably know of Okutomi san’s ichigo koucha and anzu koucha, so let’s taste the black tea that serves as a base for the flavoured teas!

Pairing items include: chagara onigiri, tsukemono, zenzai, wagashi and wasanbon.

Each guest will receive a pack of houjicha (The Bone Houjicha) as omiyage to take home.

Remarks:

The usual rules of the teahouse apply to this event, i.e. no strong perfume, no lipsticks, brief photos, no videos. Discussions amongst guests and hosts are highly encouraged! If you request to cancel, refunds will only be given if the space(s) are filled.
