Houjicha means roasted tea, and Houjicha is usually very low in caffeine due to the high heat in the roasting process removing caffeine.

A limited release from Nagayama san - this nomikurabe (drink and compare) set allows you to enjoy the same tea at two different levels of roast - one light (roasted once) 20g pack and one dark (roasted twice) 20g pack. The light roast gives the ability to enjoy roasted and green flavours together - tasting notes of toasted rice running through with some umami and sweetness. Our recommendation is to appreciate the complexity of this tea on its own. The dark roast has a rich aroma and a more focused roasted profile with the body becoming more mellow as it cools down. This tea pairs especially well together with sweet or savoury items.
