Houjicha is roasted tea, which is naturally low in caffeine due to the roasting process. This houjicha comes from the Kuma family in Jouyoumachi, Yame city, Fukuoka prefecture. This houjicha is roasted from kuki (stems) from a blend of cultivars from Kuma san’s tencha fields (including Saemidori, Okumidori and Kirari 31). Despite being a fukairi (dark roast) houjicha and that the water colour presentation is dark brown, we notice a light and incredibly smooth mouthfeel without harshness or astringency. The aroma of this houjicha is more intense than the body itself, and it pairs extremely well with food items.
