Clay in Tokoname has a good amount of mineral making the tea slightly rounder and smoother to enjoy. Mogake refers to seaweed being wrapped around the kyusu when fired in the kiln and a chemical reaction happened to create this unique pattern due to the salt content of the seaweed.

Each kyusu will have a different mogake pattern.
