CHAIRE - MURATA YOSHIKI

£220.00

Tokonameyaki, Aichi prefecture
Artist: Murata Yoshiki

An extremely rare piece by Murata Yoshiki, who is a very well known tokoname kyusu artist. This chaire (matcha container, usually used for koicha) is finished with tataki technique (hammering the surface of the ware to create facet effects). The fit of the lid highly demonstrates the skills of this artist. Tokoname is one of the six oldest kiln in Japan. It is most well known for shudei (red clay - due to high iron content). You can see part of the shudei showing in this chaire. A beautiful piece not only to use but also to keep forever.
